Baby Showers:

Although baby showers are much more common in America, these type of parties are catching on all around the world. In earlier times it was a function which was organized and attended by women only, but in recent years, due to India's level of western influence, both genders are often included. The men usually give the daddy-to-be diapers only because the mommy-to-be is getting other items at the shower.

When you and your friends first become parents, you may find that there isn't much time for going out or socialising at all, so a baby shower is a great way to get everyone together and have fun. Among Americans, there is great variance in practices and themes of baby showers. As well as gifts, another focus of a baby shower is to play games and party. There will often be things to eat and drink as well so it can become quite a social event.

Here are some possible baby shower activities:

- Draw a picture. Give any todlers in the group a coloring pen and paper and see who can draw the best picture of the baby or the parents to be.

- The fastest drinker: Give a small amount of drink in a bottle to each baby and see who can finish it first.

- Guess the baby food flavor: guests have to taste-test several flavors of baby food and try to identify them.

Toys/Gift ideas and Toy facts:

Play-Doh, Silly Putty and other hands-on materials allow the child to make toys of their own. Toys are more than simple amusement, and they and the way they are used profoundly influence most aspects of life. Toys can aid in the development of physical and mental skills which are necessary in later life.

Throwing and catching balls and frisbees can improve hand-eye coordination. Some toys are intended primarily as collector's items and are not to be played with. Toy makers change and adapt their toys to meet the changing demands of children thereby gaining a larger share of the substantial market.

Baby details and information

Newborns can feel all different sensations, but respond most enthusiastically to soft stroking, cuddling and caressing. A newborn has a developed sense of smell at birth, and within the first week of life can already distinguish the differences between the mother's own breast milk and the breast milk of another female. While the adult human skull is about 1/8 of the total body length, the newborn's is about 1/4.

Only breast milk is considered to have all that an infant requires to grow normally (thrive), although formula undergoes frequent alterations in order to more closely imitate human milk. Infants cry as a form of basic instinctive communication to their parents when in need of feeding, in discomfort or feeling neglected. After birth, the umbilical cord is normally cut, leaving a 1-2 inch stub.
