Manchester is one of the BBC's three main bases together with London and Bristol. Question of Sport, Mastermind and Real Story are some of the programmes made in Manchester. These programmes are filmed at New Broadcasting House on Oxford Road south of the city centre.

The University on Manchester has its own student radio station Fuse FM and the Manchester Metropolitan University student station is called MMU Radio.
Manchester also has community based radio station's that cover the South Manchester area.
Many national newspapers had their head offices in Manchester for many years and it was dubbed the "second Fleet Street".
Manchester at one time was home to The Daily Telegraph, Daily Express, Daily Mail, The Daily Mirror and The Sun. Before the closure of many of the offices in the 1980's, there were over 1500 journalist based in Manchester.
