Due to the Great Depression the team went bankrupt in 1931. In 1939, the Reds won the title of National League Champions and in 1940 the Reds won the World championship beating the Detroit Tigers. In 1961 the Reds won the National League Pennant but were defeated by the Yankees in the World Series. The year 1970 proved good for the Reds and they came to be known as the “Big Red Machine” and won 70 of their first 100 games. In 1972 the Reds on the NL West Championship and won the third NL West in 1973. In 1975 season the Reds got their championship after 35 years. In 1976 the Reds won NL West by 10 games. During the 1980s the highs and lows in the Reds career continued and the same trend continued in the 1990s and the 2000s.

The uniform colors of the Reds included red and white colors with trim black and the logo design was in the shape of a drop-shadow wishbone “C” in red with the words “REDS” written inside the wishbone. The team’s motto all throughout its existence remained ‘The Power of Tradition”.

The Reds won playoff appearances thirteen times in the years: 1919, 1939, 1940, 1961, 1970, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1976, 1979, 1990, 1995 and 1999. The team won pennants in the following years: 1882, 1919, 1939, 1940, 1961, 1970, 1972, 1975, 1976 and 1990 and World Championships during 1919, 1940, 1975, 1976 and 1990.
