Spiritual Healing and the Use of Intuition

By: Janet Erickson

As a spiritual healer I am frequently asked about intuition. The questions I am asked do not generally center on my use of intuition but more on how can someone develop intuition. This article will answer the question that I am most frequently asked.

So that we are starting from the same place, I want to begin by giving my definition of intuition. With this definition as a base we will be able to answer the main question that I am asked.

My definition is that we live in a world of data and of scientific principles. We live in a world of cause and effect. One action causes a specific response. Spiritual intuition goes beyond the boundaries of cause and effect. It is in fact the effect without an apparent cause. You know something without any observable input.

Now for the question that I am always asked when the subject of intuition comes up for discussion. "Is intuition something that is innate or is it a skill that can be learned". Even though the last sentence seems to be an either/or question the answer is actually yes to both parts. Intuition is innate and yes, it is a skill that can be learned. Or stated differently, re-learned.

We are all by nature intuitive beings. We are born intuitive and always have the power within us. We have our 6th sense fully functioning the moment we enter the world. But this sixth sense needs our attention to continue to operate at full force. And the life that we are born into usually stops us from being quiet enough to pay attention to the subtle forces of intuition.

We are stopped from paying attention to our "gut feelings" by everything we learn as we grow up. We are taught to disregard the unscientific. We are taught to believe that only the actions that can be recorded and measured have any validity. And like any talent, lack of use causes stagnation and the loss of our natural abilities.

So the answer is that intuition is innate but the majority of us have lost all touch with are abilities. Which leads us into the second part of the question - can intuition be learned.

Our ability to be in touch with knowledge beyond the purely physical can be re-learned with practice and patience. Remember we are dealing with a natural talent that needs to be brought to the head of the class and not buried in the back dark recesses of our mind.

The first step is to accept that intuition is part of our nature. Because without acceptance we will not be able to move forward. After we have accepted our talents then we need to pay attention to all the little details in our lives. The details that we normally either just ignore or miss altogether. We must calm our minds and let our thoughts interpret our environment. Let our senses pick up cues that we are normally blind to.

Do not dismiss anything as being silly. Listen to your gut feelings. Always ask why something is happening. Always ask for the meaning of what seems like coincidences. If you do this on a consistent basis and with patience and with acceptance then you will quickly see your intuitive abilities expand and begin to become an important part of your life.
