Taking Care of Dry Winter Skin

By: Mel C

The kindest thing you can do for your skin is to eat a good diet and drink plenty of water. A good diet is one containing plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Sugar actually depresses the immune system and that causes your skin to wrinkle more than it normally would. Coffee, tea and alcohol all dehydrate your body as they act as a diuretic. When you consume these drinks, remember to drink more water afterwards to replace what you will lose.

Feed your skin nutritional elements such as essential fatty acids - omega 3, 6 and 9. You can get these from avocados, coconuts, walnuts, olive oil, flax and sesame seed oils. Chomping on weeds is beneficial - when that weed is purslane from the garden. Fish, if they are not contaminated with mercury, are also good for the skin.

Taking a good multi-vitamin tablet will be beneficial in keeping your skin in good order. Try and find those that are derived from a food-base rather than synthetic. Nutritional supplements are good for when you are feeling low due to some health problem. Juicing fruit and vegetables will help you to assimilate enough for your needs without feeling too full.

Chlorine - in most water supplies - makes the skin dry, so adding a chlorine filter to your showerhead may be a good idea.
