Web Traffic: The Ugly Truth About Guaranteed Traffic

By: Soon Chai Lim

When your website has everything in place and you're ready to launch it on the web, the next thing you MUST do is to generate website traffic.

No matter how beautiful your website looks, no matter how quality your contents are, no matter how user-friendly your website is, without traffic, your website is nothing more than useless.

Knowing that website traffic concerns the live and death of a website, some people came up with the "guaranteed traffic" scheme to squeeze money out of those who are desperate for traffic.

They even openly declare (without a sense of guilt) that it’s one of the best and cheapest traffic strategies to get more sales for website owners.

Rubbish!

Let me show you how exactly this kind of traffic scheme works so that you can see for yourself whether it's the kind of traffic you want.

The scenario goes like this. Let's say John Doe sells these traffic packages on his website:

-- 20,000 guaranteed visitors at $60 - It means you pay $60 and John will drive 20,000 visitors to your website, not one more, not one less, exactly 20,000

-- 250 guaranteed signups at $200 - Same goes for this. You pay $200, and he'll get you 250 subscribers

Here's how John "shadily" sends you those "guaranteed traffic".

Step 1: Let's say you buy that 20,000 guaranteed visitors from John and you pay him $60

Step 2: John receives your payment. He'll pocket say 60% and use the remaining 40% to "bribe" his members into visiting your website

Step 3: Once your website has gotten 20,000 hits, your deal with John will end.

[Note: you're only John's client, not his member. John actually owns few other websites that help him gather those people who are interested to make some money from visiting websites, reading emails and opting into other people's database, etc.]

The kind of traffic that you purchased (in the scenario) is actually called "paid-to-click" visitors. Simply put, they visit your website because they want to get paid for the click.

How much interest do you think they have for your website or product offer and you think you can make sales out of their visits?

Very unlikely.

If you can get one sale out of the 20,000 "guaranteed" visitors, you're considered lucky. But the fact will make your heart sinks.

I mean, if you're looking for some spare cash you would be more than happy to join as John's member to happily click to visit other people's websites and get paid.

But if you're a website owner and you need serious people to go to your website and buy your products or services, then I'm sure you wouldn't welcome this kind of "guaranteed" traffic. Right?

Who's creating more sales actually? John.

Hence, be careful not to fall into such "guaranteed traffic" trap and make the guaranteed traffic sellers richer while you struggle to make your first sale.

I'd suggest you to focus more on generating traffic via search engine or pay-per-click advertising because these are the more effective strategies that'll drive targeted visitors to your website and make you more sales.

Side note: Key difference between pay-per-click and paid-to-click

Pay-per-click is totally different from paid-to-click.

Unlike paid-to-click scheme, if you engage in pay-per-click, you'll pay only when your ad has been clicked.

And the best part is the person who clicks your ad does not get paid for his act, which means he has greater interest in your product offer as compared to those paid-to-click visitors, hence giving you higher chances of closing sales.
