Teeth should be cleaned with an electric toothbrush, which does a better job than a hand driven one. The duration of the cleaning time should be two to three minutes; something rarely adhered to by adults, let alone children eager to rush out and play. Gingivitis is treatable, but if left it can easily lead to a worse problem, that of periodontal disease. Besides, poor gum health has recently been linked to diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, premature childbirth and high blood pressure.
Other things to prevent gingivitis are having your teeth cleaned periodically by the dentist to remove hard plaque build-up; using a soft brush and cleaning your tongue as well as your teeth; using a mouthwash and renewing your toothbrush regularly. Remember, you can prevent gingivitis, but if you do get it, you can also get rid of it.
