Those who use direct deposit will be the first to receive their rebates between May 2 and May 16. Paper checks will now be mailed between May 16 and July 11.
I have written a few articles already about how this is really money that the government overcharged you in the first place and to make sure that you use it wisely. I will not rehash that argument again in this column.
But what will you do with your newfound money? Will you use yours to stimulate the economy? Will you buy a new car, flat-screen TV, computer or some video games? Or will you put it to good use and improve your life and that of your families? What about helping someone improve theirs?
If you have any money left after applying it towards your debt or maybe even your emergency fund, maybe you could use it to enrich your life.
You could buy a book or two and actually read it. You could invest in coaching to help you through a situation that you have been struggling with Or you could buy that new radio or take a vacation that you will not remember five years from now.
I hope you have something to show in five years based on the actions you take today.
